Mountain Light

City weddings are built from thresholds: the door before the aisle, the hallway before the entrance, the second before a room turns to look. Those moments carry the nerves, so they are worth photographing properly.I work through a wedding day quietly and without a shot list running the schedule, which is what lets a frame like this stay unhurried.

The Entrance

The hour after the toasts is usually the best one, and it is the hour most timelines forget to leave room for. Ten unhurried minutes at the bar tends to produce the pictures a couple actually hangs.Venue light is left as it is here. The room was already warm and the whiskey shelf was already glowing, so nothing needed adding.

After The Toast

Nobody plans this frame. It happens in the thirty seconds between one room and the next, and it only exists if the photographer is already in the elevator.Staying with the party rather than staging it is most of the job. The formal portraits still get made, but this is the one the family asks for.

Nine Floors Up

An engagement session is the rehearsal, and that is the point of booking one. An hour in the foothills is usually enough for a couple to stop performing for the camera, which pays off on the wedding day.It also produces the pictures you actually need now: save-the-dates, the announcement, something honest to send your family.

Foothills Golden Hour

Shooting through something rather than at it is a habit from years of editorial work. Putting grass between the lens and the couple gives them a moment that is genuinely private, and privacy is what makes the frame look unposed.Sessions run about an hour and move with the light rather than against it.

Through The Grass

Midday sun is supposed to be the worst light of the day. Dropped low and aimed up, it turns the sky into a backdrop no studio can build and puts a hard clean edge on everything.Working against the rule rather than around it comes out of the advertising side of the practice.

Against The Blue

Family sessions run at home more often than not. A living room in the morning has better light than most studios and, more importantly, the children already know the room.No matching outfits, no posing children who do not want to be posed. We follow whatever is already going on.

First Steps

Restaurant work is shot in the room, in service, on the surfaces the kitchen actually uses. Food carried to a studio arrives dead, and a menu photographed on a white sweep tells a customer nothing about the room.Boise restaurants book these for menus, delivery platforms, press and social.
